Legal
User-Generated Content Policy
Standards for member content and moderation within the sanctuary.
Defined terms carry the meanings given in BeDeeper's shared legal definitions unless expressly redefined here.
In plain language
This Policy describes what BeDeeper does with the content you create in the sanctuary — your writing, your reflections, your uploads. It reads with:
- Your ownership and BeDeeper's licence: Content Ownership
- Prohibited uses of BeDeeper: Acceptable Use
- Sanctuary expectations: Community Guidelines
- What happens on termination: Account Termination
1. What "user-generated content" means at BeDeeper
At BeDeeper, "user-generated content" is anything a member creates inside the sanctuary. This includes:
- Living Journal entries.
- Passage reflections.
- Lantern conversations (both member and Lantern messages, since a conversation is a shared record).
- Compass content — maps, life-compass responses, north-star declarations, Dream Journal entries, vision-board reflections.
- Vision-board images and voice reflections you upload or record.
- Artifacts you accept and reflections you associate with them.
- Wisdom Shelf favorites.
Ownership of everything you create is described in Content Ownership. This Policy describes how BeDeeper handles the content — moderation, standards, private-by-default treatment, and how future member-facing surfaces will be added carefully.
2. Private by default
In BeDeeper Version 1.0, member content is private to the member. There is no public feed, no shared timeline, no cross-member search, and no way for one member to see another member's writing inside the sanctuary. This is not a coincidence of the current design; it is a value. The Sanctuary is not a broadcast.
Row-level security on the BeDeeper database enforces this at the storage layer. BeDeeper staff access member content only in the limited circumstances described in Privacy Policy.
3. Standards for member content
Because BeDeeper is a sanctuary, and because we may open member-facing surfaces in the future, some standards apply to what you write and upload today.
Member content must not:
- Contain material prohibited under Acceptable Use, including illegal content, child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate imagery, or content that promotes violence, self-harm, or harassment against real people.
- Include another person's confidential or sensitive personal information beyond what is reasonably part of your reflection.
- Include material that infringes another person's intellectual-property rights (see Copyright Policy and DMCA Policy).
- Attempt to prompt The Lantern into behavior prohibited under Acceptable Use.
Content whose only purpose is to test or bypass safety systems, to store unrelated data, or to use BeDeeper as a general-purpose storage or AI service is out of scope for the sanctuary.
4. Moderation authority
BeDeeper reserves the right — but does not accept a general duty — to review, restrict, remove, hide, quarantine, disable, or preserve member content, in each case where BeDeeper reasonably believes doing so is:
- Necessary to protect the safety of members or third parties.
- Necessary to comply with applicable law or a lawful order.
- Necessary to enforce Terms of Service, Acceptable Use, Community Guidelines, or this Policy.
- Necessary to preserve evidence in connection with a specific report, incident, or investigation.
- Necessary to keep the sanctuary operational.
Moderation choices are made with restraint and are proportionate to the concern. Where BeDeeper acts, BeDeeper will try to tell you what changed and why, except where doing so would compromise a lawful investigation, the safety of another person, or the integrity of the sanctuary.
5. How reports are handled
To report a specific piece of member content — for example, content you believe was posted about you, or content shared inappropriately in a future member-facing surface — write to support@bedeeper.com. Copyright complaints follow DMCA Policy. Security concerns follow Security & Data Protection.
Reports are handled with the same restraint that governs moderation generally.
6. Future member-facing surfaces
BeDeeper may open surfaces where members choose to share Artifacts, reflections, or other kept material with other members (for example, a shared Wisdom Shelf, an opt-in surface for kept teaching). Any such surface will:
- Require explicit member action to share content into it (opt-in, not opt-out).
- Have additional standards shown at the entrance to that surface.
- Preserve the underlying commitments in Content Ownership, including the no-sale and no-third-party-AI-training commitments.
Nothing in this Policy pre-authorizes BeDeeper to publish, resurface, or share member content outside the sanctuary. Any such surface will require the corresponding member action described above.
7. Content you delete
Effects of deletion — of an individual entry or of an entire account — are described in Account Termination.
8. Changes
Substantive changes to this Policy follow the notification convention in Terms of Service and the effective-date convention in BeDeeper's Legal Foundation.
