Copyright Policy
What BeDeeper owns, what you own, and how copyright notices are handled.
Defined terms carry the meanings given in BeDeeper's shared legal definitions unless expressly redefined here.
In plain language
This Policy describes BeDeeper's approach to copyright — what BeDeeper owns, what you own, and how notices of alleged infringement are handled. Copyright notice-and-counter-notice procedure is set out separately in DMCA Policy.

1. BeDeeper's copyrights and marks
Everything BeDeeper writes, illustrates, designs, or codes for the sanctuary is protected by copyright and, where applicable, trademark, trade dress, and other rights, subject to the rights BeDeeper holds in third-party components licensed to BeDeeper.
The following are examples of BeDeeper's protected work:
- The BeDeeper name and word mark.
- The design and typographic system of the sanctuary.
- The names of BeDeeper's primary destinations (Sanctuary, Passages, Meraki, Journey, Telescope, Compass), related surfaces and Passage rooms (Discovery, Reflection, The Deep, Invitation, Echo, Key), and language of its architecture, including without limitation The Lantern, Artifacts, Oil, Wisdom Shelf, Dream Journal, Living Journal, and the other terms listed in BeDeeper's Legal Foundation.
- BeDeeper's teachings, prompts, and canonical content.
- The BeDeeper application source code and documentation.
Nothing in Terms of Service or elsewhere in the legal package transfers any of these rights to a member. Members receive only the limited licence to use BeDeeper described in Terms of Service.
You may not scrape, copy, reproduce, republish, translate, adapt, or otherwise reuse BeDeeper's protected work outside the permitted use of the sanctuary, except as expressly permitted by applicable law (for example, quotation and fair-use rights that cannot be waived).
2. Third-party components
BeDeeper relies on open-source software libraries and other third-party components. Those components are used under their respective licences. Where BeDeeper is required to include specific notices or attributions for a third-party component, those notices are made available in the sanctuary or on request from legal@bedeeper.com.
BeDeeper's use of a third-party component does not transfer any of BeDeeper's rights in the sanctuary to that component's licensors or vice versa.
3. Members' copyrights
You keep ownership of what you write in BeDeeper. See Content Ownership for the full statement, including BeDeeper's commitment not to sell your writing and not to use your writing to train third-party AI models.
4. Respecting other people's copyrights
Member Content you upload or write must not infringe another person's copyright. This includes:
- Uploading images to your vision board that you do not have the right to use.
- Recording voice reflections that reuse another person's copyrighted work in a way that would not be permitted by law.
- Copy-pasting large blocks of copyrighted text from a book, article, song lyric, or other source into your Living Journal or a Lantern conversation in a way that would not be permitted by law.
Fair use, fair dealing, and equivalent copyright doctrines apply as they would elsewhere. When in doubt, err on the side of quotation, attribution, and short excerpts.
5. Notices of alleged copyright infringement
BeDeeper honors the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act and comparable frameworks in other jurisdictions. To report material on BeDeeper that you believe infringes your copyright, follow the procedure set out in DMCA Policy. Notices sent by any other route may not receive a formal response.
6. Repeat infringers
Where a member is a repeat infringer, BeDeeper may suspend or terminate the account under Account Termination. What constitutes a repeat infringer is described in DMCA Policy.
7. Trademarks
BeDeeper's marks may be used only for descriptive references to BeDeeper itself (for example, in a review, article, or personal reflection). You may not use BeDeeper's marks to identify a competing product, in advertising or promotion of an outside product, in a way likely to cause confusion about the source of a product, or in any way that could imply endorsement or affiliation without express written permission.
