Legal
Content Ownership
Member ownership of writing, no sale, no third-party AI training, export, deletion.
Defined terms carry the meanings given in BeDeeper's shared legal definitions unless expressly redefined here.
In plain language
What you write in BeDeeper is yours. BeDeeper does not sell it. BeDeeper does not use it to train third-party AI models. BeDeeper receives only the limited licence necessary to store it, display it back to you, keep it safe, and run the sanctuary you subscribed to.
This document is the one where those commitments are written in full. Other documents in the legal package reference it rather than restating it.

1. You own your writing
You retain ownership of the reflections, journal entries, Lantern conversations, Compass content, Dream Journal, Artifacts, uploads, and other original content you create in BeDeeper.
For clarity, "your writing" and "Member Content" as used in this document include:
- Living Journal entries — the reflections you write in Journey.
- Passage reflections — the answers you write within a Passage's six rooms.
- Lantern conversations — the messages you send to The Lantern in The Deep. (See section 6 for the Lantern's responses.)
- Compass content — maps, life-compass responses, north-star declarations, Dream Journal entries, vision-board reflections.
- Uploads — vision-board images and voice reflections.
- Artifacts and Wisdom Shelf favorites — the pieces of meaning you choose to keep.
- Any other original content you create in a BeDeeper feature that accepts your writing.
Ownership stays with you before, during, and after your BeDeeper membership.
2. The limited licence you grant BeDeeper
To operate the sanctuary you asked for, you grant BeDeeper a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid, sublicensable only to BeDeeper's subprocessors listed in BeDeeper's Legal Foundation and only for the purposes below, licence to Member Content to:
- Store it in BeDeeper's database and file storage.
- Display it back to you inside the sanctuary.
- Back up and synchronize it across BeDeeper's storage and edge infrastructure so the sanctuary continues to work if a server fails.
- Provide the requested services — for example, sending your Lantern message and a bounded amount of context to the language-model provider so The Lantern can reply, as described in AI Transparency.
- Diagnose and repair the sanctuary in response to a specific incident.
This licence does not permit any use outside the operation of BeDeeper. BeDeeper is not authorized to publish, resurface, share, syndicate, or commercialize your writing beyond what is necessary to deliver the sanctuary to you.
Nothing in this section grants BeDeeper ownership of Member Content, and nothing extinguishes your rights in it.
3. What BeDeeper does not do
For the avoidance of doubt, BeDeeper commits:
- BeDeeper does not sell member writing. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to research firms, not to any third party.
- BeDeeper does not send member writing to any third party for the purpose of training AI models. The bounded context BeDeeper sends to the language-model provider so The Lantern can reply to you is sent to produce that reply.
- BeDeeper does not authorize its language-model provider — or any other subprocessor — to use member writing to train AI models. BeDeeper's contractual and account posture with the provider is intended to reflect this. Where BeDeeper cannot fully verify a provider's internal behavior against contract, that limitation is disclosed here honestly rather than papered over. Confirmation of the current provider-side posture is tracked in BeDeeper's launch legal checklist § F.2 and BeDeeper's legal consistency review § 5.2.
- BeDeeper does not surface your writing to other members. BeDeeper Version 1.0 has no public feed and no cross-member content. Any future member-facing surface will require your explicit opt-in as described in User-Generated Content, and the commitments in this section will continue to apply.
- BeDeeper does not enrich third-party marketing profiles using Member Content.
The narrower question of what leaves the sanctuary in the ordinary operation of The Lantern — what BeDeeper sends to the language-model provider so The Lantern can respond — is described in AI Transparency. BeDeeper undertakes to keep the commitments in this section aligned with that description.
4. Export
You may take your writing with you.
- Per-conversation export. Individual Lantern conversations can be exported as a text file from Journey.
- Broader export on request. Where a self-serve export does not yet exist for every content class (Living Journal, Compass content, uploads, Artifacts, Wisdom Shelf), you may request an export by writing to privacy@bedeeper.com. BeDeeper aims to acknowledge within seven (7) days and to respond within a reasonable timeframe consistent with applicable law.
- Export before deletion. If you plan to delete your account, please consider exporting first — see Account Termination.
Any current gap between the self-serve tooling and this section is recorded in BeDeeper's legal consistency review for tightening.
5. Deletion
You may delete Member Content:
- Individually, where the feature offers a delete action (for example, deleting a Lantern conversation from Journey).
- In its entirety, by deleting your account as described in Account Termination.
Deletion effects — what is removed from live systems immediately, what persists briefly in encrypted backups, and what BeDeeper is required to retain — are described in Account Termination.
6. The Lantern's responses within your conversations
Lantern responses inside a conversation with you form part of that conversation as a record. BeDeeper stores those responses so you can return to the conversation later. You may export or delete the conversation on the same basis as your own messages. BeDeeper does not claim a licence in its own responses that overrides your ability to keep or discard your Lantern conversations.
7. Feedback
If you send BeDeeper feedback, suggestions, or ideas about how the sanctuary could work better, you grant BeDeeper a non-exclusive licence to use that feedback to improve BeDeeper — including in future features — without obligation to you. This licence covers only the feedback you deliberately send to BeDeeper. It does not cover Member Content, which is governed by the rest of this document.
8. Respecting other people's rights
Member Content you upload or write must not infringe another person's rights. Copyright complaints are handled under Copyright Policy and DMCA Policy. Content prohibited under Acceptable Use may be moderated under User-Generated Content.
9. Survival
The ownership statement in section 1 and the commitments in section 3 (no sale, no third-party AI training, no member-to-member surfacing without opt-in, no marketing enrichment) survive:
- Termination of your membership.
- Deletion of your account (subject to the operational realities described in Account Termination).
- Assignment of BeDeeper in a corporate transaction (see Terms of Service, section 20).
10. Changes
Substantive changes to this document follow the notification convention in Terms of Service and the effective-date convention in BeDeeper's Legal Foundation. Because the commitments in section 3 are central to member trust, BeDeeper will not change them in a way that weakens them without giving members no less than thirty (30) days' notice and the option to end their membership under Refund & Cancellation before the change takes effect.
11. Contact
